Rangers are set to actively pursue an Orlando Pirates prodigy following a trial at a Premier League club, according to The Scottish Sun. Clubs like Glasgow Rangers are on his trail, and he has been compared to South African legends. Relebohile Mofokeng’s journey from the SAFA-Transnet School of Excellence to potential international stardom is setting the football world abuzz.

Global Attention and Competition

Al Ahly, Red Bull Salzburg, and Premier League side Wolves have also been linked with the Orlando Pirates prodigy, Mofokeng. Wolves notably extended a trial invitation last year, with Mofokeng also spending time at Reading FC.

Despite his slight physique, the teenager has already made 16 appearances in the South African top flight this season. This contributed to Orlando Pirates’ third-place position and current great attacking form.

Adaptable in midfield and on the left wing, he has quickly acclimatised to professional football. Graduating from the SAFA-Transnet School of Excellence, he boasts four goals and six assists this season so far.

The Road to International Stardom

Rangers’ manager Philippe Clement and scouting expert Nils Koppen have demonstrated their ability to scout talent globally. This was previously shown by signings such as Mohamed Diomande from Ghana’s Right to Dream academy.

Orlando Pirates prodigy Mofokeng has yet to earn a call-up to the full Bafana Bafana squad. But speculation suggests he could potentially be included in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.

Stanton Fredericks, a Kaizer Chiefs legend spoke to The South African, and likened Mofokeng’s attributes to esteemed South African players like Jabu Mahlangu, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala. He emphasised the anticipation the youngster generates among fans when in possession, giving his team the advantage.

Fredericks praised Mofokeng’s seamless transition to the professional stage, attributing his success to tactical astuteness and remarkable abilities. He also highlighted his unpredictability and advised on further physical development for European football.

Orlando Pirates Coach Riveiro Stressed Stellenbosch’s Lead in CAF Champions League Race

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro emphasised Stellenbosch FC’s lead in the race for CAF Champions League qualification. Despite a strong recent performance, with a 2-0 victory over Chippa United, Pirates remain one point behind Stellenbosch.

Riveiro, aiming for consistent continental success and a league title, maintains a calm approach. He acknowledged Stellenbosch’s exceptional season and focused on Pirates’ own performance.

Tshegofatso Mabasa’s goalscoring prowess and a solid defensive strategy are highlighted as key factors in Pirates’ recent success. With upcoming matches against Richards Bay and Moroka Swallows, Pirates aim to maintain their momentum.
