The recently released census 2022 data has revealed a substantial population surge in Cape Town, which has put strain on the City’s water sources.

According to the census, the City’s population has reached 4 772 846, marking a 27.6% increase since 2011.

This population boom, coupled with the impacts of climate change, has posed significant challenges to the city’s water security, the City of Cape Town said in a statement on Thursday.
