The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Eastern Cape is expected to flood the streets of Butterworth blue today, Wednesday, 4 October.
According to the party, it will be holding a march to speak out against the high cost of living in the Eastern Cape that is leading to desperate poverty and people allegedly taking the lives of their children to escape from its clutches.

The march will take place in Butterworth and will be led by DA Eastern Cape Provincial Leader, Andrew Whitfield MP. He will be joined by DA EC Provincial Chairperson, Yusuf Cassim MPL, DA Shadow Minister of Social Development, Bridget Masango MP, Chief Whip of the Official Opposition, Siviwe Gwarube MP, Phesheya Kwenciba Constituency Leader, Mlindi Nhanha MP, Alfred Nzo Constituency Leader, Baxolile Nodada MP, DA EC Shadow MEC for Social Development, Kobus Botha MPL, and DA EC Provincial Spokesperson, Cllr Georgina Faldtman.

“The cost of living is spiraling out of control and the ANC government is failing our people,” the party said in a statement.

“The situation is so desperate that last month a young mother from Butterworth allegedly took the lives of her three children, before killing herself, as she could no longer put food on the table.
“We will, therefore, march to the offices of the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development to hand over a memorandum requesting immediate intervention,” the party highlighted its objective.
The DA concluded by saying it will do everything in its power to rescue the Eastern Cape and lift our people out of poverty.
