Sanral says the N2 between Makhanda and Fish River Pass will intermittently close from Thursday, 18 January. Here’s why.

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) advises motorists that the N2 will intermittently close between Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) and the Fish River Pass due to blasting operations.
The national road will be closed from Thursday, 18 January, until 29 January.
Sanral said the road will be closed on four days for a maximum of three hours, from 14:00 to 17:00.
The road closures are planned for:
Sanral Southern Regional Manager Mbulelo Peterson said the blasting operations will occur on sections 13 and 14 of the N2 between Makhanda and the Fish River Pass.

Peterson said motorists travelling westwards between East London or Qonce (formerly King Williams Town) and Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) might consider using the following alternative route:

“The temporary road closures are unavoidable as Sanral continues its work to upgrade the N2 in the Eastern Cape, which will ultimately benefit road users.
“Motorists are requested to plan their trips accordingly, consider alternative routes, and use caution when using the roads,” Peterson said.
