Former South African President Jacob Zuma attended the Good Friday church service today — this comes after he was involved in a car crash on Thursday.

‘IN HIGH SPIRITS THIS MORNING’: JACOB ZUMA UNHARMED AND GOES TO CHURCH AFTER CAR ACCIDENT

Although the information is still quite sketchy, it has been reported that a driver had indeed collided with Jacob Zuma’s “official armoured state vehicle”, BBC reported.

According to the publication, Zuma is said to have been in the vehicle when the car was hit. The accident is also said to have taken place on a road in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal at around 18:40.

A police statement has reportedly revealed that “No one was injured, including members of the Presidential Protection Services. The former president was evacuated and taken to his residence.”

The former president’s daughter Duduzile Sambudla has also recently shared that her father decided to attend church on this special Friday following his car accident yesterday.

“President Zuma is in high spirits this morning attending Good Friday church service at his church in Nkandla,” she announced on X (the social media platform previously known as Twitter).

MORE ABOUT THE FORMER PRESIDENT’S ACCIDENT

The 81-year-old former African National Congress (ANC) leader was travelling from Nkandla to eShowe to campaign for his uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party, IOL reported.

It is alleged that Jacob Zuma was travelling in a convoy when the other vehicle slammed into his car. The police have since arrested a 51-year-old man alleged to be the person who crashed into Zuma’s armoured vehicle.

The suspect was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when he was involved in the car accident. The unnamed suspect has been arrested and is expected to be in court next week Tuesday, the South African Police Services (SAPS) revealed on social media.

“SAPS have arrested a 51yr-old man for drunken driving as well as on a charge of reckless and negligent driving on the R66 on Thursday, 28/03 at about 18:40. The man’s motor vehicle collided with former President, Mr Jacob Zuma’s official armoured state vehicle,” the SAPS wrote in a statement shared via X.

“At the time of the collision, former President Zuma was in the vehicle with his protectors. The man is detained and is expected to appear before the  Eshowe Magistrate Court on Tuesday,” the SAPS statement read.
