Here’s how you can turn 20 days of annual leave into 52 days off in 2024.

ALL THE SOUTH AFRICAN PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN 2024

South Africans will have 14 public holidays this year, including two additional holidays for the days that fall on a Sunday.

  • 1 January: New Year’s Day
  • 21 March: Human Rights Day
  • 29 March: Good Friday *
  • 1 April: Family Day
  • 27 April: Freedom Day
  • 1 May: Workers’ Day
  • 16 June: Youth Day
  • 17 June: Public holiday Youth Day observed 
  • 9 August: National Women’s Day
  • 24 September: Heritage Day
  • 16 December: Day of Reconciliation
  • 25 December: Christmas Day
  • 26 December: Day of Goodwill

HOW TO GET 45 DAYS FROM 18 DAYS LEAVE

  • 2-5 January – 4 days of leave for 9 consecutive days off.
  • 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 March – 5 days of leave for 11 days off.
  • 2 and 3 May – 2 days of leave for 5 days off.
  • 8 August – 1 days leave for 4 days off.
  • 23 September – 1 day leave for 4 days off.
  • 17-30 December – 7 days leave for 19 days off.
